Wouldn't evangelicals try and hasten the end of the world...

if the events that happened in the film were happening in real life? Aren't they wanting (or many of them) wanting the end of the world to occur.

it was funny in the movie that the catholic priests were relieved, don't they want to meet jesus?!

reply

Really makes you wonder doesn't it what organised religion is up to when the people leave the congregation hall.

The issue isn't that the Church/Catholic priests were relieved that the Second Coming didn't happen.

Jesus/Jurgen Prochnow is himself relieved that he did not end up having to judge/destroy Earth after all.

Any sense of relief was derived from the fact that Jesus had finally, at last, found the one single pure soul whose "dying for him" would forestall God's Endtimes judgment and cause the re-filling of the Guf. A bittersweet ending to a story that was heading toward a grim climax.

I think it captures how some people believe that Catholic Church puts control, influence and power over saving souls and teaching about Christ. Why wouldn't they be concerned that their earthly riches are coming to an end. Many people believe the Catholic Church is itself filled with evil.

reply

If you consider them selfish.
