"I thought it was a fashion thing, people were wearing black"

So Grace's husband got killed 5 years ago, that would've been 1983, can somebody who was around at that time tell me if it WAS a fashion thing then to wear black?

reply

80's goth scene!

reply

For God's sake, really? You're atomistically analysing throwaway Bill Murray lines from a comedy?

Ffs.

reply

Someone's grumpy..

reply

Well it's always been a joke that New Yorkers wear all black.

reply

He wasn't stating that there was a fashion for wearing black back then, he was assuming that it was.

reply

Well, he actually did say "people were wearing black". That's an observation, not an assumption.

Black was SUPER popular in the late 80s...not as much in the early 80s. But it's just a funny line that the character utters to show how little attention he pays to people while relating to the 1988 audience who of course would know how in fashion the color black was at the time
