Should they have kept it simpler?

To me, the idea of the scarecrows by themselves was creepy enough and I would have liked to seen the whole film with silent scarecrows stalking the group. So I thought having the scarecrows start off as regular people (the spirits of satanic farmers?) and then having full on zombies was a bit overkill and took away from the simplicity. Does anyone agree? Sometimes less is more.

That being said, the idea of them mimicking voices was pretty creepy.
