Is Hans Gruber's army descended from Nazis?

The "Volksfrei" movement in Die Hard is loosely based on the RAF, but close enough to change the dialogues in the German release.

I doubt it, or at least they’re a little more open minded. If they were hard core Nazis they wouldn’t have brought along an Asian henchman or a black computer hacker.

We are meant to hate them, at least partly, because they are German. You may draw whatever conclusions you like from that.

Europeans are just superior to americans.
