I dunno, cuz Eastwood confessed that he'd be too old for the role and that by now "Callahan has tossed the badge for good".

????

but on the whole, i'd definitely like to see another Dirty Harry film. but at age 77- sheesh- it's almost as if Clint shoulda made the film back in 2001 or something.

I think a 6th Dirty Harry film could have been released in 1991 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dirty Harry, but I think doing another Dirty Harry would be a bit unbelivable since Clint Eastwood would no longer be able to do a lot of the physical stunts in previous films. The only way I can imagine one final Dirty Harry film is if Harry Callahan has now been promoted to Police Commissioner or Captain or possibly retired and the plot could have revolved around the kidnapping of Harry's son Harry Jr who is now a Police Officer just like his father and comes back for one last fight.

i read in the paper that harry goes looking for his granson

I was wondering after the release of the Dead Pool, if there were plans to make a 6th and final Dirty Harry Film since film 5 did not really provide any closure. Part 6 could have been released in 1991 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of film 1 and could have dealt with Harry dealing with his retirement from the Police Department. I think Harry would have been called back into action one final time when Harry discovers that his nephew who was also a cop was killed in the line of duty while doing an undercover operation. Harry would have sworn revenge on the killer.

Or...
Harry is retired and is kidnapped maybe, and his nephew could be called in to save him

the Character of "Dirty Harry" alone reminds me alot of inspiration for Sgt. Gordon From The Dark Knight. Both are the "Good cop" in a corrupt city, both are tryinging to take the world on by themselves in not with very little help, Both use excessive force but ONLY as needed, but only Dirty Harry has the 1 REALLY good line.

"I know what you're thinking, punk. You are thinking, 'Did he fire six shots or only five?' Well, to tell you the truth, I forgot myself in all this excitement... but being as this is a .44 Magnum the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" ...Well, do ya, punk?!"

Weren't they going to make a video game at one time?

I personally believe that one last Dirty Harry film could have been released in 1991 to celebrate the 20th anniversary. For Harry Callahan's final adventure, he is now Captain of the San Francisco Police Department as a way for him to keep out of trouble and faces retirement and ends solving one last final crime. This time around, it is really personal for Harry when his girlfriend Samantha Walker from the Dead Pool is critically injured in a vicious gang attack which puts her in a coma. Harry discovers that someone that he knew from his past may have setup the attack as a way to get even with the Captain. Harry decides that he is had enough with Bureaucrats and decides to take matters into his own hands.

Well Eastwood has made a lot of films where he plays an older action man: Line of Fire, Unforgiven, Space Cowboys, Absolute Power, Gran Torino.

He could have definitely done this.

reply

of course he could star in another dirty harry film he may be 78 but look at him in the 1980s. he was barely throwing any punches or doing big stunts the only stunts he did in previous ones was jogging and fireing his 44 magnum strait. who says that dirty harry was an action film as far as i know it was allways a cop thriller.

I always thought of THE ROOKIE as a disguised closure for this kind of role Eastwood at this certain time in his career. Despite the fact that that film plays for the laughs. And it certainly developes far more interestingly over the course of its length than the uneven rendering in THE DEAD POOL.
In retrospect you can see that Eastwood was at a transitional point in his career. Right after THE ROOKIE he did UNFORGIVEN and IN THE LINE OF FIRE which is the last film where he was not directing.

reply

That's exactly what I think, in many ways THE ROOKIE is the last Dirty Harry movie (even if Clint isn't called Dirty Harry).

To bad Charlie Sheen's career didn't go on that direction... (or any direction)
