Do you think she did it?

While I was reading the news reports, I completely believed that she was innocent. And then I found this quote that she made about Meryl Streep.

"no other actress would have been able" to play her better than Meryl Streep."!!

I know that it's not much, but I mean COME ON!!! Your daughter is taken by dingos and eaten. You get charged with the murder, go to jail, finally released and all you can think about is the fact that Meryl Streep is the only person who can play you decently in the movie about what happened!

If I were Lindy, I: would move somewhere else, change my name and try to start a new life. I wouldn't want a movie being made. It's like a constant reminder of what happened. Unless you're guilty and you can't help but feel some accomplishment because you got away with it.

I have not sen the movie but have read about the case. it seems clear to me that from what I have read she is innocent. and I guess the authorities in australia think so too since she was released. did the prosecution come up with a motive? I mean what possible motive could she have to kill her baby? I believe the media influenced the original verdict in this case, along with a poor defense and crooked prosecution. here in the states it is common for high profile trials to be influenced by the media and "popular opinion" which is not justice. OJ comes to mind and also robert chambers "the preppy murderer" right here in ny. it was bad enough that Lindy had the trauma of losing her baby but then to be accused, and found guilty of killing it and spending 4 years in prison/hard labor camp...I don't know how she survived. does anyone here, especially the ones who are being cavalier about it, realize the scope of that? try and imagine it happening to you, how would you live with it? could you? After everything, the government sees fit to "compensate her" with approximately 25% of her legal costs. does that seem fair to anyone? it doesn't to me, not by a long shot. it makes you wonder how often innocent peoples lives are destroyed by being falsely accused and convicted. damn us all that we allow such atrocity to continue. this was a true tragedy and i only hope Lindy went on to have some sort of peace in her life after such unimaginable trauma.

To the original poster of this thread...
1: Lindy & her family have been through THE WORST and most horrific ordeal imaginable, and its quite cruel to suggest that one comment - eight years after the event - in any way justifies you making proclamations of guilt just on that short and simple sentance in response to a question.
2: This movie is based on a book that was not written by Lindy, therefore the rights to it were not hers to be a part of - or financially benefit from - her involvement was to maintain accuracy of the timeline of events, and her meeting with Meryl proved that there was a connection of minds that turned out to be a pretty good match for the rols that she played.
3: IF you were Lindy, I hope you have half the strength she's had to get through the ridiculous mountain of stupid comments and pathatic opinions of what she went through. She doesnt have to hide in the shadows and bow down to anyone - she is an innocent woman with three incredible kids - who are all scarred by what's happened, and ALWAYS live with an incredible level of inner strength that you could never muste on your best day.
4: Anyone who doubts the truth doesnt know the facts - and anyone who doesnt know the story by now SHOULD know the truth.

There's no doubt that Lindy and Michael Chamberlain were both rather odd in their demeanor, in the sense of not outwardly grieving in a horrific situation. Yet I also think that an awful lot of folks were overly quick to judge them guilty on very little evidence.

You know that scene where she describes the course of events that the prosecution was basically building its case around? I mean doesn't that just prove her innocence right there? I don't know if a dingo killed the baby or not, but I'm sure she didn't.

Innocence is never proved in a trial under the British Legal system as used in most English speaking nations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent and the prosecution must prove the defendant's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

So you base her guilt upon that statement alone, huh?

Like someone said before, glad you're not a juror. And how do you know that was *all* she was thinking?

By the way, newsflash: She is INNOCENT. http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/11/12173435-coroner-dingo-took-baby-in-notorious-case?lite

Hi Debora, I wanted to add my post to one of the more recent replies so I chose yours. I hope you don't mind.

Many people wonder why Lindy and her husband took the baby camping. I think this woman grew up doing these kinds of things and it wasn't any more difficult for her than a shopping trip in your Cadillac would be for an American woman. I had a very hard time delivering my daughter and wasn't really even able to drive comfortably after two months but other women have a very easy time of it.

As far as emotions go, women's emotions when they are pregnant and for a short time after giving birth are very unpredictable. i don't know much about Lindy but from what Ive seen I'm guessing she's a pretty rugged woman who handles her emotions well.

There's no doubt in my mind that she lost her baby to the wild dog. I have an extensive knowledge of canines and their bites. In America we have wolves and the smaller coyote. They (coyotes) generally don't approach people in heavily populated areas but will eat their pets if given the opportunity. The area I'm from has a problem with the American Eagle occasionally making off with someone's poodle as well.

This tragic event could've happened to anyone. It's too bad the world makes judgements about women based on whether we cry or not.

So well said. Some people R criers some hold it all in. So she didn't cry on demand , and people couldn't grasp that a woman wouldn't be falling to pieces everytime she spoke.
She went through the most horrific thing a woman can , the loss of a child and in such an horrific way.

I was waiting for my hearse what came next was so much worse

Don't understand how anyone could think Lindy did it...wtf. It's an embarrassment and travesty in Australian history that she was convicted.
