why wasn't a sequel produced?

that just kind of sucks. This film made money, globally. But it seems like Hollywood "insider" racism just wanted to confirm the narrative of the 1980s that black action actors don't work as leads except Eddie Murphy.

I'm glad that people became prominent in the 90s like Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington and Will Smith.

You are right. A lot of people don't want to admit it because they can't relate and don't think racism against Blacks exists. But it does. Those in denial will cherry-pick around the obvious answer when it comes to questions like,"Why black don't get work in Hollywood" and etc. But it's nice to see some brave people who are not afraid of the truth.

I remember this was one of the back-in-the-day movies i really regretted not seeiin the theatre, even though i was underage at the time. When i finally saw it i wondered why this didn't get more attention.

It tripled its budget at the box office, but according to its Wiki, Weathers is quoted as saying

Weathers said he hoped the film would become a franchise "but Lorimar sold the lot to Sony and sold the library to Warner Bros., and that was that. It never resurfaced again, unfortunately."

Sounds like it just got trampled under the boots of studio armies marching this way and that.

Weathers was hoping for sequels too, especially considering the movie's financial success. In the aforementioned chat with Renegade Geek, the actor explained that Lorimer - who distributed Action Jackson - was sold to Warner Bros around this period. This meant WB had the rights to Action Jackson 2, but Weathers believes the studio's interest in producing martial arts movies with another, unnamed actor - possibly Steven Seagal, based on Weathers' description - is one reason a follow-up ultimately went unmade.

There's still talk of an AJ sequel today. Apparently, producers have called Weathers a few time over the past week, but he hasn't picked up the phone yet
