Why don't people like this movie

This is one of the best action movies i have ever see and i am only seventeen years of age. Carl Weathers is one of the greatest action movie stars to ever hit the big screen. this movie has action, comedy and dram to it and not alot of people like it, but i love it. I mean come on Weathers has the body of a super hero the fighting skill of Apollo Creed (lol) and he rocks this movie in half.

who agrees with me?

The problem lies in a wooden villain and a terribly underwritten protagonist. Comparing to this Rocky IV is simply insane action extravaganza. AJ has his moments but very few!

They've got half the cast from Predator, Carl Weathers is shirtless, Biff from Back to the Future shows up and somehow it drags like a bitch.

A few good fistpump worthy scenes in the bunch but my eyes were tired. I wish Carl Weathers had another chance to shine (I mean this literally, the guy was in insane shape)

one reason film like thisrent made anymore is that hollywood is searching for the GQ goodguy and badguy who are basiclaly skinny toothpicks. Also, it used to be a standard that hollywood recruited form stage actors, now all you have to do is have looks. Directors and producers cut films around bad acting.
Also, in the 80's they looked for diverse looking people to be in moviess. Now they are always selecting in shape people which is out of tough with reality.
Also, this is the decade of PG-13 and that puts a strangle hold on these types of films.
CGI has also played a roll in this because now the directors and producers are using CGI constructs to double for everything from cars, to crowds, to bullets, to everything so they dont have to pay for actors and locations. This undermines the real look of film and turns it more into animation. That is probably why I havent been real interested in seeing movies for about a year.

Action Jackson seemed to be a movie that was behind it's time. I think it would have done better had it come out 5 years earlier. It has that early 80's cheese all over it. The cheesy one liners, stunts and action scenes are similar to the kind of movies Arnold was doing years before.

By the late 80's this style was being phased out for darker action films like Robocop. Carl Weathers may have had a better career if Action Jackson came out in the era of Commando and Rocky 3.

It's a real shame this movie wasn't a big success. We could have gotten a sequal and Carl would have become the headliner he should have been/be.

I take pride in having seen a wealth of cheezy action movies and Action Jackson had eluded me until a few days ago.

Carl Weathers is a beast beyond mention, he's legendary in my book and was shammed out of his chance at real stardom. This movie could've been his vehicle but when I saw it, I was pretty disappointed.

There were some good moments and fun scenes, and again, Weathers was awesome, but some of the scenes seemed really small-scale and undercooked. For example, in Commando, Arnold kills practically a whole small army on his own and fights about 12 mall cops unarmed at once.
In this, Action Jackson struggles with one junkie armed with a knife. If this was a more realistic action movie, that scene would've been more compelling and dramatic, because the struggle depicted was realistic for if you were actually taking on a crazed junkie, but he's supposed to be a legendary action dude, I was expecting something a little more over the top.

Not to mention Craig T. Nelson as the badguy. Although a good actor and convincing in the dramatic scenes, I don't know whose idea it was to cast him as a martial arts virtuouso! Awful choice, the doubling in the final fight scene was hilarious and terrible, I couldn't buy Nelson being able to last more than 5 seconds with Weathers, they should've had an imposing henchman that rivaled Jackson throughout the film until the climax.

Again, a real shame since Weathers has great screen prescence and really was physically a match for Arnold or Sly.

One of the guys above Nic Hee said what I thought. This kind of action movie would have been better off had it released a couple years earlier.

At the time it came out it was completely unmatched against other action movies like Lethal Weapon or Die Hard.

It didn't have good action, it wasn't funny, it didn't have a good villain and it was just a poor mans Arnold film. It had all the action movie clichés. Carl Weathers or the film had anything unique to it at all.

I like this movie....I don't love it but I like it.

In my collection of 1200 movies this film has the prestigious honor of being the lowest IMDB rated movie I still repeatedly watch and enjoy. It was certainly an A-budget movie when released and had a good script ...many great one-liners. Some of the car crashes and explosions remain awesome. The casting choices were good. Sharon Stone is actually nice looking here as well as Vanity. Weathers does a very competent job in the lead.

Top it off with healthy doses of 80's cheese. Great fun entertainment!

Surprised it hasn't attained a bigger cult following.

I like this movie, Carl Weathers did a great job in it, don't see him in much of anything, wonder why.

I find the film moderately entertaining, but there is a sort of drabness to the proceedings—it may be the detroit setting, but I think much of it is more to do with the storyline and the direction. The movie is quite short at just over 90mins and this may be part of the problem—it needed to be more fleshed out. It plays out in a perfunctory routine fashion, like it's just going through the motions of what the script has set out. The patched together violent action sequences blended with some comedy is quite jarring as some of the violence is quite strong. I would have liked to have seen a more exciting climax as well—it just sort of happens and then it's over.

I just saw this movie on Starz. I had never seen it before. I love the part when Jericho Jackson was keeping up with the taxi cab and then he jumps on top of it, that was too funny and I couldn't stop laughing. I also had never heard of Vanity. I thought she was so fine in the movie that I had to google her. Sad to find out she didn't do much with her life. I also noticed that Bill Duke and Sonny Landham were in the movie as well, two actors that were in the movie Predator with Carl Weathers. Great '80s cop B-movie.

I agree, this show is very underrated. Its got a bad-ass star in Carl Weathers, and a very good villian. Some good B-actors, some hotties, some boobs, some action and some humor.
