extremely underrated

this is a great movie. A fascinating thriller filled with suspence and interesting twists. It also presents corruption and possible shortcomings of the american judiciary system. It was little understood and grossly underrated by the public.
Also the movie is extremely well acted by everyone in the cast and watch out for the almost then unknown Liam Neeson. Two hours of worthwhile cinema!
To be recommended.

Just watched this again in the UK on Five.
Great film, I love the fact that it's freezing cold in the exterior scenes, just adds to the theme of being homeless in it.
All of the cast are brilliant especially John Mahoney as the judge.
My favourite scene is the one where Cher and Dennis Quaid are in the library looking for books and the judge comes in to study and spots them. There's no dialogue but the tension is unbearable in case they are seen colluding together.

This film was actually quite good. At first I didn't even notice that it was Liam Neeson in the part of the mute Vietnam Vet.

I thought Cher under-played her role much too much. This could have been the fault of the director. I just thought her acting-- which I usually really like- was dull as dirt. I thought the same of John Mahoney. So maybe there was a director who told Cher and John to "be worried (John)and depressed (Cher)."
The fact that Cher finally breaks into laughter at the end of the movie shows me that it was the directorial plan... by a bad director.

It's also preposterous. Kathleen Reilly gets robbbed while stuck in traffic though a minute later the traffic disappears, she's assaulted by her court-appointed defendent, and continues to represent him, and when she's alone with him she removes his arm restraints, and in another scene demands that the cuffs be removed from the murder suspect. WTF! ...and than her behavior with a juror is unbelievable and the subplots largely irrelevant, and don't forget The Miracle Worker-like scenes, and the To kill a Mockingbird rip-off.

I agree with you about the underrated part and the interesting twists as well.

Lord of the Rings is the most beautiful film I've ever seen. It's like a fantasy meeting reality
