When Keith picks up Amanda for the big date I was expecting him to roll up to some Mcmansion, but turns out Amanda lives in a little modest cottage. What did I miss? Aren’t all these movies about the poor guy chasing the rich, beautiful girl?

Yea, you missed it. They said she was from their part of the city, ie not rich.
