Favorite segment

I just adore Robot Carnival. It is without question one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember watching it for the very first time about 13 years ago, and falling in love with this film. All the segments were superb, but my absolute favorite was Yasuomi Umetsu's "Presence". I have been a huge fan of Yasuomi Umetsu since I first discovered his work on Megazone 23 Part II. The character designs and animation for Presence were so incredibly gorgeous, it just took my breath away! IMHO, this was Yasuomi's finest work ever - the pinnacle of artistic sophistication, refinement, and imagination. Presence was one of the most beautifully poignant stories I have ever experienced. A young married scientist creates a beautiful android girl who then apparently falls in love with him. But it was a love he could not allow... This tragic and most unusual love story was made even more haunting by the fact that the voice actress for the android girl in the English language version, Lisa Michelson had passed away after recording the voice. A dedication to the memory of Lisa Michelson was shown after the ending credits.

Strength of mind, force of will...

My favorite one is Nightmare, because it reminds me of a robot version of Night on Bald Mountain.

'Presence' was one of the most tragic and touching anime I've ever seen in my life. So powerful. The highlight of the film imo.

That segment does have a certain heavy emotional impact.

This question was posed 13 years ago, but I'm going to reply anyway. Presence is by far my favorite segment, and possibly my favorite ten minutes of anime ever.
