Why does Quentin Tarantino deny that he has never seen City on Fire? It is very obvious after watching this film that Reservoir Dogs was a rip of City on Fire. It is like Mark McGuire denying that he used steroids. The more he denies it the stupider he looks.
Reservoir dogs and City on fire do have the same plot and the same concept. But Reservoir dogs is a far better film. Bteer acted and better directed. And do u think that no other director in the world has taken someone elses ideas and improved upon it. Nothing is done from scratch anymore because everything has already been done. So do not single out Quentin Tarantion he is the man.
If any one is looking to buy a copy od city on fire you can find it on www.deepdiscountdvd.com. It is a very reliable web site that i have use many time before and have been very happy with.
One reason I'm so critical of Tarantino is because City on Fire isn't the only example of a plot he's lifted. Every movie he makes seems to just be a combination of cool parts of other movies assembled in a new way. I thought Kill Bill was great until I watched most of the movies it pays "homage" to. You can't copyright a basic story, but when you take the details from one (costumes, camera shots, plot, characters) and remold it you're kind in a grey area. I'm sure this could be done with Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown as well, if you watch the movies he watched from that era a lot of it would be there. I don't dislike Tarantino or hate his movies (I like them a lot actually), but something just isn't sitting right with me. One thing that can't be denied is that he's turning people onto great movies they might not have seen otherwise, but at what cost to the original films? I work in the music industry and song rights boils down to intent. If you intentionally take even a couple notes or lyrics from a song and that can be proved, your in violation of the copyright. With movies I'm sure its different and I haven't heard of anyone sueing him, so I think it's more of an ethical question than a legal one.
PEOPLEEEEEEEEE PLEASE...dear lord, I can end this entire series of posts right now...Tarantino not only loves to steal movies, he calls it his INSPIRATION for his movies, his movies are about OTHER MOVIES, NOT ABOUT REAL LIFE...that's his point, no one minds because he does it so well. The exception is Jackie Brown where he really tries to develop Jackie's and Max Cherry's reltionship on screen. There, now there is really not much else that needs to be said.
Tarantino is a hack. This is old news. But he calls his films "homages" instead of "thefts" and so he is given a huge fanbase and hailed as one of the greatest directors of all time. Ever the video store clerk, Tarantino will always be a fanboy, lacking a real vision of his own.
Many modern directors, including Tarantino, Spike Lee and Kevin Smith heavily borrow or refrence older movies. Whether or not you like it completely depends on if you view it as stealing or just homages and being inspired by them. One of Spike Lee's most famous scenes, the love/hate knuckles from "Do The Right Thing" was lifted directly from an older movie.
I hate how imdb signatures look like they're part of the posts.

Yes, he has been hiding behind the word 'homage' his whole career of stealing.
Which is very ironic considering it is a french word, and he couldn't even pronounce au revoir, so he called au revoir les enfants 'that reservoir movie'.
And he named Reservoir Dogs based on his misunderstanding.
I wonder how much the guys from pixar had to pay the kurosawa family for remaking Seven Samurai in the form of A bugs life............................. Oh wait.
Woo also reinvented Hong Kong cinema almost single-handedly, and makes highly personal films with innovative action choreography. He invented a formula by himself ("A Better Tomorrow") and is actually a pretty original filmmaker.
What a fanboyish nonsense! You can convince with this only someone who doesn't know better. John Woo did NOT reinvent HK cinema!! ROFL. And by far not even single handedly! LOL. A Better Tomorrow, A Better Tomorrow II and The Killer are officially known as 50% Tsui Hark movies, my dear friend, check into some facts. John Woo only partially reinvented action genre, that's all! And only with one film and with one style that he repeated over and over up to this day. Check out something about true master, Tsui Hark: He's responsible for over 70 films with 70 styles and over 30 classics and over 20 groundbreaking films that truly reinvented and saved the whole HK film industry in the last 25 years!
Well The Killer and A BetterTomorrow were stories that John Woo had made - A Better Tomorrow II was heavily controlled by Tsui Hark, which is why it wasn't as good as the original. Tsui Hark, although he did great with Once Upon a Time in China, has since fallen off. Seven Swords was okay - but Red Cliff was WAY better. So stop slagging off Woo - he is the one who broke new ground as writer and director.
Woo made a good comeback and Tsui Hark has, sad to say, washed up...
I call Tarintino's style the blender style. He takes all these great things, grinds them up and makes something better than just one of the original things were. Res Dogs is my favorite movie. Tarintino is a great writer and director.
Also The Godfather must have ripped off Bonnie and Clyde when Cann/Sonny was killed.
This is against all of those who call Tarintino a thief and who can't appreciate great American cinema. In the words of another great director, Kevin Smith, or rather, one of his characters
Randal So I've just been flaming this guy on his website.....
lol yea this is just retarded. Sure he's influenced by it but thats the point of art. And what about every OTHER scene in reservoir dogs, was there a mr blond in this movie? Was there a cops ear being cut off? Was there... ahhh you get it. Cumon ppl stop tha playa hatin. City on fire is like Rugby and reservoir dogs is like football. Nuff said.
