"No speako Espanol" - SO OFFENSIVE TO RICHIE!

Either he was retarded and didn't learn spanish from his mother and brother (possibly father) and latino community they lived in or he is one of those latino americans who are like "I'm not mexican, so don't speak spanish to me" and makes the point of pretending to be completely oblivious to common knowledge spanish.

If you don't speak spanish, the first thing you learn is how to say "I don't speak spanish", and it is "no hablo" not "no speako".

His brother was fluent in Spanish. His mother was fluent. Both of them speak it throughout the movie.

I wish they had addressed this in the movie, either by explaining why he didn't speak it or explaining why he was pretending not to speak it.

Why did it need to be addressed? It isn't a big deal - Ritchie was a 17 year old kid, he didn't speak Spanish, he gave a typical response.for a kid in his position

reply

Because there's no way a 17-year-old kid raised by Mexicans living in a Mexican neighborhood wouldn't at the very least know how to say, "I don't speak Spanish" in Spanish LoL.

It would be like being raised from birth by English-speaking people in an English-speaking neighborhood and not knowing the most rudimentary English.

DISPLAY thy breasts, my Julia!

My co-worker has Mexican parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, etc. He grew up in El Paso enveloped in Mexican culture, doesn't speak a lick of Spanish. He has no desire to either.

reply

I can't speak the language that my grandparents came from and I had a Hispanic work mate who couldn't speak Spanish. In fact he had to be told he was pronouncing his own surname incorrectly!
