Most under rated War film

Most people dont like this movie, I dont get it I just watched it and I thought it was awsome! Its no Platoon but its a very good film and very realistic. The acting wasnt the greatest but aside from that it was a very good war movie!

Agreed- the troop slang in this film is dead on, more so than any other Nam movie. I've also read that many Vietnam veterens think the actual portrayal of daily grunt life and combat is more realistic than other Vietnam movies.

I actually think the use of period grunt sland is so effective that I dont think many people unfamiliar with the subject know what the hell they are talking about sometimes. When I used to watch this as a teenager, there were several instances of me going "what tha' hell does that mean?" The fact that I've since read up about Vietnam and apreciate more all the little realistic touches in this film makes me like it even more.

This movie not outdo "Platoon", but "Hamburger Hill" does have its fine moments and some of the battle scenes deserve a lot of credit for how it's staged and covered on film considering the conditions. Plus, some of the scenes when the unit isn't in combat, you find a sense of unity and loyalty despite where some of the men come from regardless of race and their background(s). Is it under-rated? Yes, it is and there are movies in any genre that don't get as much credit as they should deserve.

It was a fine movie. Nice visuals, realistic portrayal of the battle.

But the realism could also turn some people off, as the story / plot didn’t have the same pull as a Platoon or Apocolypse Now. At times, Hamburger Hill felt like a random assortment of incidents and conversations.

There was also a lack of star power. There wasn’t anyone that the viewer really identified with or became attached to
