censored or not?

anybody know if that movie has been cut for an R rating?
some scenes in the shootouts seem cut off or not ?
it's a pretty wild movie though - the finale is mind blowing

reply

I don't ever remember hearing about this movie being threatened with an "X" rating by the MPAA for violence. I agree the editing is somewhat awkward at the end of the final shootout.

Great sequence and a nice homage to the finale' in The Wild Bunch. A very under-rated Walter Hill film.

the uk video version cut the scene where william forsyth stabs the rat in the basement when they cut the wires

reply

The UK dvd version however is uncut. Don't know about the US, I believe it's uncut, but it's also non anamorphic too, so if you have the choice I'd import the region 2 UK version (which is anamorphic) instead.

reply

I've got the Region 2 version and when I watched it last year, it seemed uncut to me.

I previously bought it on VHS in 2000 and I'm sure they cut some bits out of the final shootout, when William Forsythe and his buddies get mown down.

damn i would die to see the unrated version. if the movie came out today we would have a good shot of an "extended version" since pretty much every violent movie these days comes out with an "extended" release besides the normal release.
too bad the movie is not popular enough.

i know only of COMMANDO which they released after over 20 years with the MPAA cuts included this time.

but i still hope the studio will do the same to this movie !!!

btw thx to major hackett - always good to hear reliable information

Well I saw this movie on tv (europe) back in the 80's and the way I see it now it's cut.
The part of Powers Booth being shot, for sure... I don't know about other parts.

It doesn't require a genius though to see that the end shootout with Nolte and Booth has some bad editing as well. What a waste of squibs :D

They also released a full uncut version of Robocop. That was the 20th anniversary I believe.

reply

Criterion was the first to release Robocop uncut on laserdisc in 1995.
