A beautiful and delightful film

This movie has been a fixture of one of my favourites ever since I saw it in the late 80s. It has the sort of memorising visuals a painter like Greenaway pursues in films as well as on parchment.
Not for all that is certain (or it would be one of those top 100 lists) but it satisfies me for its vision, sound and characters.
I have frequently gone visiting the town of Southwold, and the locations are pretty much the same (2017 when I write this). It therefore has a special place for fans of this movie.

It is a fantastic film. I give it 10/10 on IMDb. It's biased view. Not relevant for a review.

It's lovely to watch. Fascinating women, bemused men, set and filmed in a painterly way, and with a great soundtrack. I chose to see it as a fairly simple story framed elaborately - which may mean I'm missing something or may mean I've shared a mocking joke on pretentiousness. Don't know, don't really care, I just enjoyed it as a visual feast (and is that another joke? There is a lot of food and eating in the film.).

It's a great film. I just wish I'd discovered it sooner. I just watched it for the first time on TV only recently.
