Little Women

Did Kevin Sullivan ever acknowlegde that he based this film on the movie Little Women, With very little from Lucy Montgomery's books?

reply

"Based on?" I suppose there are a few similarities. Jo and Anne are both imaginative, and both submit fictional stories for publication. They both go off to another city to teach/tutor. They both reject a guy who's proposed to them. They both are attracted to an older man at some point.

But other than that...?

reply

No way, man, if you compare with the actual L. M. Montgomery books, Movie-Anne's relationship with Movie-Gilbert is way more like Jo and Laurie than it is with Book-Anne and Book-Gilbert. Some of the dialogue is almost word for word from Little Women, and not from any of the Anne books at all!

Not that I hate the movie or anything, but it isn't much like the books in some regards.

reply

The movie Little women with Winona ryder was made a few years after anne of avonlea

reply

But if you ment by the book Little women, then I see what you mean

reply

You are aware that Little women was filmed about 3 times aren't you? There is a version with Katharine Hepburn, and June Allyson.

reply

Heh, I was just commenting on this on another thread. There is NO DOUBT WHATSOEVER that portions of this film version of "Anne of Avonlea" were copied from the 1933 and 1949 film versions of "Little Women." They are close enough that it could be considered plagiarism, in my opinion.

reply

I don't get it. To me they all appear to be regular-size women.
