Was this the first proto-Michael Bay type of film?
With the fast and frenetic editing, huge scope, two-dimensional characters, a rock-inspired soundtrack, the emphasis on spectacle over any kind of substance, and the presentation of war and combat without any kind of emotional or social connections. I suppose that it's not too coincidental that Top Gun like many of Michael Bay's movies, was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
