This movie gave me many nightmares as a kid. I liked it, but it was one of those nothing-to-do-saturday-matinee-movies that came on back then. It's a little fuzzy in my mind, but I do recall a scene where the monster has one of the woman's head on it to lure her husband in. They don't make em like that anymore.

reply

Its so true! they dont. amazing movie, i just ordered it off ebay, i didnt know the name of this film for YEARS! i used to see it on TV when i was around 10 and im so glad i found it now. The womans head... in the pool! *beep* great.

reply

Oh man, having seen this since I was around 9 years old. From what I remember it was all trashy fun; the heavy metal dude who placates the monster because he wears gloves, the Elvira-esque buxom beauty TV presenter who somehow gets involved, the dirty ol' grandad.... Not a brilliant film, but one of those ones which somehow holds nostalgic memories...

reply

this movie is great, as long as you appreciate the cheese, this is top notch crap, the swingers, the punkers, the paranoid grandpa, and lets not forget ther catchy credit song, "...by the light of the t.v. screen....all night long.", Spiro that crazy bastard, he is a 'manly man', anywho, glad to know other people have seen this too

reply

I saw this on TV when I was probably 10 or 11, and found it horrifying yet intriguingly seedy. I can still recall some of the images from the film, especially the part where several of the character's heads are sticking out of the slimy body of the monster. That really freaked me out but I couldn't stop watching. I later told some friends of mine about it and how scary I thought it was. To my surprise, they'd seen it too, but instead of frightening they found it hilarious.

I really do like this movie, but slightly going off topic, AutumnAthena, you say the music creeped you out? In 1980 or 81 for some odd reason, 12 years of age at the time, the B-52s (whom I never heard of, when I was randomly listening to music on this one night) their single 'Rock Lobster' just really weirded me out. I don't know why. The organ segment was a disturbing aspect for this song.

I remember seeing this movie when I was like 9 on cable and was so weird! I loved it. I havent seen it since. Anyone know if cable still runs it or is it out of the loop now?

reply

Heh, I actually own it on VHS, and I think it may be the original release of the tape.

I'm a big fan of cheezy 80's horror movies. I remember seeing this movie when I was about 9 years old. I live in Maryland so I saw it on a Saturday afternoon horror movie show called "Nightmare Theater." It was broadcasted by a local television station. If you're from Maryland and you remember this let me know.

reply

me and my buddies caught this several weeks in a row in high school. we would go to the midnight movies. pretty sure we were on acid. anyhow, we all loved it, it's a riot. classic lines. "just takin' care of business" spiro zeros was a riot ("i like boys!") "stan the man? put the putz. couldn't even get a heini for the road."

curious to see if anyone recognizes the metal dude. that's right, none other than Napoleon Dynamite's uncle. :)

reply

Hey, Blue Devil! I'm from Baltimore and I've got a funny "Nightmare Theater" story for you. One afternoon, they ran a movie called C.H.O.M.P.S on Nightmare Theater because the title sounds like it would be a horror film. Turns out C.H.O.M.P.S is a kids movie about a kid who builds a robot dog.

Man, I would kill for a poster of Jon Gries as OD. I'm going to try to make one soon but I don't know how big I'll be able to make it. Remember when he caught that piece of chicken? I think I'm going to watch it right now while I eat some lizard tail jerky!

"Hey. Little dude. You into metal? Kiss the boot man!" -OD

reply

Whoa....! Dude....!

One of my all time favorite movie lines, ever.

reply

Haha, I got "Kiss the Boot" in my homepage's title. Terrorvision rules, man. :D

reply

Hell yes! And let's not forget Jon Gries' "cameo" (e.g. bit part) in the later film "The Monster Squad"!

reply

I'm from New Jersey, but i remember that show!

reply

[deleted]

No. Elvira isn't in this. I thought that when I was younger too. This movie is sort of a spoof on those genre and has an "Elvira-like" character, or I'd like to say "Vampira-like" character.

OMG JON GRIES was in this movie as O.D.!? lol

reply

LOL! I lived in Northern Virginia and remember Nightmare Theatre~

I saw this movie IN THE THEATER when it came out - at a midnight showing.
I took my then-girlfriend (now my wife) and it was the ONLY one out of many movies where we actually walked out before it was over.
The pace was so slow she actually fell asleep, and it was impossible to determine if it was supposed to be a comedy, an out-and-out horror movie, or something in between - I'm still not sure 19 years later.

There was one sort of catchphrase that one of the characters kept saying that we mimicked for a long time afterward - can't remember what it was now, but that was all that we got out of the movie.

I think I'll try to rent it anyway, though - even if we still can't see anything good about it, it will at least bring back some memories.

reply

I love this movie. I bought of copy of it off Ebay a few years ago.

I'd love to get my hands on the movie poster for this.

Yep!
Totally agree with you.
Every time I see anything to do with the army on TV, I yell out "TROOP MOVEMENTS!" to the bewilderment of my family around me!

I wonder if there is a widescreen version on DVD???

Cheers

I saw this movie when I was 13 or 14...in a rainy night! I used to go to my grandparents house in the weekends, and they gave me my first tv for the room... at that time they would show horror movies (of all type) on tv friday night and I would just stay up almost all night watching them

for some reason Terror Vision was the one movie I was never able to forget...it was cheesy, it had all the clichês of horror movies, it was terribly funny and I can still remember the ending movie in my head!!!

I wish I would see this movie again(well I would probably get disapointed) the monster, the satellite, the hot tub! this was a very cool movie!!!

reply

i was about 10 when i saw for the fist time this movie, and man, it made me laugh my ass off. That monster slimeball was awesome with his turning eyes. Even now i am thinking off it it still makes me laugh!

I wish i could get it on DVD, i never have found it here in Holland, bummer!

reply

yeah a true classic of eighties movies!love the house and its art
!got it on vhs love it to bits!

reply

This started playing on TV right after it was done in theaters! Must have been more or less given away to the stations. I was ten at the time, and I saw it a couple of times on the small screen. Haven't seen it since, though.

From now on we're spelling EVERYTHING with letters!

reply

I remeber watching this on video when i was a kid, god damn its awful, but i'd probably love it now, im trying to find both this, and Video Dead, on video so i can have fun watching such pieces of trash haha. The main thing i remeber about this, is in one scene the kids rush into their fathers room, to find him in bed, and the bedsheets are floating around and he's smiling, "there's nothing wrong with me kids!" haha. I guess you need to see it.

reply

i like the part where the asrtonaut comes in or whatever and hes about to save the day when someone kills him from behind or something... i could not stop laughing the first time i saw that

reply

I love any horror movie that features late night TV horror movie shows or sci-fi shows. That sort of thing is soooo missing from TV now. A real shame. They use that time to sell crap. At least they used to show us a cheesy movie and sell crap during the commercials. Now it's just crap.

TerrorVision is terrific and bizarre throwback to this time. I bought a VHS used and it's in bad shape. We really need some kind of DVD. I'd even buy a lame full screen version. But widescreen would be better. With the trailer as an extra and I'd be happy. :)

reply

Terrorvision must come on DVD..........TERRORVISION RULEZZZZZZZ..lol. I want to see it again!!!!!!!!!!!!
The part that the grandfather is yelling at the tv set wich showed The Hungry Beast was so damn hilarious. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!

reply

I watched it twice in one day when I was 12 and again tonight when I was housesitting for my friend. It is so freaking awesome: fake alien effects, really over the top characters, and lots of touches of black comedy. I liked the whole homage to sci-fi creature features this movie contained. I've gotta get the DVD to this when and if it comes out!

Anchor Bay, are you listening?

reply

I saw this film when I was about 10. Both my parents, my sister and I all have fond memories of it. specially the ending. I remeber my parent renting oit from a local shop and watching it twice ove the weekend. But you lot are luckier than us in England. I have never seen it down to be on TV let alone available anywhere.
Please, Anchor Bay, Momentum, anyone, I beg you, release this film on DVD. Unless it's butchered.

You couldn't tell that it was trying to be a comedy? Even if it didn't strike you as funny, that's pretty clearly what they were going for.

If any of you guys use Myspace at all, go to their video section and search for TerrorVision, they have the whole movie on there! As well as other horror classics!

reply

[deleted]

Oh seriously? Haha, small world! That's a shame, there were quite a few old horrors on there, and none of them are on there anymore, I figured maybe they were taken down. I don't see the big deal, I could understand if they were new films, but some of them I find on various video stream sites, I can't find anymore in DVD/Video stores.

reply

Somebody always wants to ruin the fun. Tell you to stop showing it then they don't make it available in return. We just want the @#$%!! thing released to DVD for us. Is this so hard?

reply

Exactly! While most old movies are still attainable, there are some that either are but really hard to find, or just not available at all, so the only way to get around it is by downloading it onto a video stream website. Then some idiot comes along, who obviously doesn't want anybody to have any fun because of his own miserable life, reports it and just ruins it for everybody!

reply

This was better than anything nominated for an Academy award this year. Why wasn't there a Terrorvision 2?

I saw it last night. It wasnt the greatest movie ever but it was watchable. Jonathan Gries as Diane Franklin's dumb idiotic boyfriend was great

reply

I saw this on tv on a Sunday afternoon. I'm guessing it was 1986. I thought it was creepy, but it kept me intrested. I barely remember the title song. I really want to see it again now. All those years I thought I remembered Jeffery Jones playing the dad.

reply

Great movie indeed

reply

What can you say? It's vintage 80s cheese. A friend and I rented it from a small video rental place back in 1988. I was 12 and he was 10. The movie was over the top, ridiculous and disturbing. Some slimey alien creature comes down through one of those big assed 80s satilites, and feeds off the humans and uses them as some kinda possessive bodysnatcher to lure in the other victoms. I agree with some posts here that the use of the grandpa was freaky since when you are young you respect and feel a kinship to your grandparents. It hard to see one in that way. I also thought the women enticing her husband was freaky using sexual tension in a disturbing way played on my mind. A bad but evocative movie of the 80s that is fun, in a late night "i have been sitting around the house way to long" sort of way.

reply

watched it last night in a beautiful widescreen version. theres simply no reason why MGM cant put this out on DVD. the widescreen print looks flawless! A strange, simple movie, TerrorVision seems to live in a world of its own.
i had forgotton that Romano Albani (Inferno, Phenomena) shot the film.
