Is this a knockoff of 1983's High Road to China?

Shanghai Surprise was an adaptation of a book.

High road to china was a knock off of Indiana Jones!

High Road to China was also a book by Jon Clearly. It came out in 1977 before Raiders of the Lost Ark.

No. Had nothing to do with it. The only similarity is that there's a westerner who gets hired by a western woman and that it's set in China. That's it.

No, more like an Indy Jones knock off, and not a great one either.

It's not an intrinsically bad film as such, but it's not anything memorable. It just is. Having said that, I'm not sure it would be a film that I would have produced.

They were both cashins on Indiana Jones. High Road to China did it a bit better.
