What about Sam at the end? (MAJOR SPOILER)

So, is the idea that he drowned when Barbra threw him off the dock? If so, wouldn't that get her put in prison for murder? And if not, if he survived, wouldn't he go right to the police and tell them what she did, thus getting her put in prison?

I suppose I'm stating the obvious here, but the inspiration for this film would seem to be the classic short story "The Ransom Of Red Chief".

I never took it as him getting killed, just very wet. I assume he could swim. I also don't think he would be able to go to the police because there is so much against him, like that he wanted her to be killed and didn't want to pay money to get her out.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Screenwriter Dale Launer said that the film was inspired by the kidnapping of Patty Hearst and that any similarities to O. Henry's short story is purely coincidental.

Movies are so stupid on this planet, this is a movie version of 'getting rid of someone for good'.

Just like in Back to the Future, what happens to the Libyans?

If they die, they sure would be avenged - after all, they weren't able to complete their mission.

If they don't die, surely THEY would be going after Doc and Marty again - and if they found them in the obscure parking lot, surely they would find them anywhere.

But because it's a movie, magically they suffer NO consequences whatsoever for stealing already-stolen, highly valuable American Government's plutonium from ter***ists.

Basically Doc Brown is a psychopath, liar and a thief, plus, could be said to also be treasonous, as he's making deals with groups that have performed acts of war against the american government..
