Crispin Glovers performance...

Amazing. The crazy tone and inflection of his voice, all his "speeded-out" mannerisms, his (dull one moment emblazened another) eyes. Wow. All of it. He is amazing in this movie, and the major reason I keep coming back to this movie.

reply

I agree... he is one of my favorite actors too

He was so hot in that movie. He looked like George McFly with a mullet and an 80's outfit. *sigh*. He was quite attractive. The only thing was, he needed to calm down.

"Dude, I saw it right there in front of me. I touched it with a stick."--Layne

I think Glovers preformance was great in this movie, The thing I admire about him is how well he does diffrent charaters so well.

reply

huhn? every character he plays is the same freak. glover is a terrible actor (an over actor).

reply

Overacting or intensity? If you're a fan, he's intense, otherwise, not. But he does oddball like no one else. He just needs to find projects for his talents, sicne, as you're suggesting, he can't do mainstream, normal performances.

Of course, that's why I'm a big fan.

reply

You know what people? Subtlety is not always the greatest thing. Sometimes you need bat**** crazy. Take a look at "The Shining." Personally, I think it would be boring if Jack Nicholson played it more "subtle" than he did. "Gimme the bat. Stop swingin' the bat. Wend-yyyy!"

reply

Crispin Glover is not Jack Nicholson.

Crispin Glovers character in Rivers Edge does not call for the same performance as Jacks character in the Shining. At no point in Rivers Edge does Crispin Glover talk to ghosts who try to convince him to kill his family in an isolated hotel.

Terrible analogy.

thats *beep* he was amazing as willard the way he projects his emotions feels so real to me and his phycotic expresstions gave me the chills. by the way i can name a couple of calm normal or some what normal characters: george mcfly he plays a dork not a freak, arlo from larry flint vs the people it was his most normal character he has ever done and he did a great job at it. bobby whats eating gilbert grape yes he kinda weird in that one but he was calm and sain. so you dont understand good acting if it bit you on the ass. at first it does seem like crispins character seem kinda off put because of his stonner accent and his character did seem annoying in the car scene with john when he ranting on repeatly saying man in a stonner accent but he's suppose to act like that it just part of his character. when he got all panicy and hight strong he nailed it. it just the way layne talked that was off put. i think maybe that why people did'nt think he was that great in this film but i have seen teens talk like layne and believe me it's annoying. i met a kid who talked and act even more annyoing and retared. layne for the most part was actaully barable. look at the film sid and nacy. nancy spungen was horrblie annyoing her voice was cringing to the ears and made my stomach crudle but does that make the actress terrible of her work? of course not because nancy in real life was a nightmare. her voice was really scracthy and whiney. i dont know how anyone could stand her mind you the movie could have over exaggerate on how she actted but that could of been the director at fault but even if it was an over exaggeration on nancy i still have seen people as annoying as her.anyways i am trying to make an example becuase my main point is its not the actor who was doing a bad job its just the character is off put that all.

p.s this in my opinnion

I agree, Glover's performance is great, there's no other actor that's like him. He has his own style.

reply

"emblazened" is not a word. "emblazoned", which is pronounced the same as that would sound, means that something has been marked or labeled on the surface. And yeah, Glover was good.

reply

Oh, yeah. Crispin is great. He always sets the screen on fire.

>> I think there was only ONE scene where he overacted, and that would be the scene where he stops the car and yells at clarissa. Another was the whole ending sequence.

I don't think he overacted there. Put yourself on his spot (for Layne is all a game), I would act like him. Crispin is not overacted as an actor, it's Layne who overacted. The same with the ending, esp. knowing that he's in panic.

Crispen kicks ass in this movie. He's the reason I sought this movie out to begin with and i wasn't disapointed. Everybody does a good job in the movie but Crispen's turn as Layne took it up a notch. He also had a lions share of the good lines.

Who says violence is not the answer?

Crispin Glover...

Sucks Balls.

reply

Yeah he was really good in this film, seriously one of the best performances ive seen, Dennis Hopper wasn't bad either more of a subtle performance.

reply

I for one couldn't stop imaging him saying "Hey you.....get your damn hands off her".

and he was most definitely overacting.

reply

Agreed, fantastic performance by Crispin Glover.

Hang around with some speed freaks/meth heads whatever and you will see he is not overacting. Consider that the character was not only a heavy drug user anyways but also under lots of stress causing even heavier consumption and crazyness.

Anyone remember Crispin's famous appearance on Letterman when he freaked out? Its possible/probable that he really was using lots of drugs at the time of this movie.

Crispin was great in this movie.

Crispin Glover sucked in this movie. The george mcfly mannerisms were obvious hinting at a lack of versatility and his voice was ridiculous. Pretty much everyone in this movie did a terrible job acting, except for Hopper.

reply

I think everbody in this movie pulled off a pretty good performance (with the exception of that little bastard that played Tony) and the only one guilty of overacting was the High School teacher. Crispin Glover did a hell of a job creating a character that everyone can relate to- everyone's met somebody like Layne in their life and from what I remember of the stoner kids of my youth these people could've been the teens in my neighborhood.

When I think of "time capsule" movies (films that offer a perfect representation of the era in which they are filmed) ie Easy Rider 60's, Taxi Driver 70's, River's Edge is the penultimate eighties film. What other movie comes closer?

reply

I didn't see any of George McFly in Crispin's Layne. Sorry.
