Do you have Stevie Wonder's eyesight? You probably lack more senses than the natural wonder and need a miracle worker.

reply

..yeah, but what's more amazing was at the same time, his future actress-wife Kyra Sedgewick was shooting an Amazing Stories portraying an 18yo titled "Thanksgiving" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0511117/plotsummary ) and she based her portrayal of young 'Dora' as-if she were a Jami Gertz-style girl..! And what's amazing..!? Kevin & Kyra were still not 7 degrees apart yet..! Or were they..!?!?!?!

reply

Oh, there were nasty trolls back 17 years ago on IMDB.

At least you just rented it. I saw this in the theater when it came out. IIRC it was the wosrt of the year that I saw. I also recall that this came out during a long string of bad movies that season.

reply

Amen brother.

(i couldn't finish watching this dire attempt at a motion picture despite meagrely contributing towards the electricity on another's tv set on which it was playing. So your loss was indeed lamentably greater)

I have seen this movie 172 times. I think it's the best film ever made. The shots are on location. I know those big hills in NYC. In fact at the time it was shot New York was under law that all cars have California license plates, and that the public transportation used the same design as California's. It's a great story. A story about how the Gypsy could have so much power to terrorize a small delivery agency. The nobility of wanting to start Hector's Hot Dogs. What a dream man! There's no better way to release anxiety than to dance. Bacon did it in Footloose, why not dance on a bike.

reply

Couldn't they have given Gypsy a better car?

You people must be nuts, it's a true 80s classic, deserves its cult status, great acting and cool soundtrack. Too bad the DVD is foolscreen, it's widescreen on Euro TV.

LOL. Funniest comment here.

Fred you say thier was a string of bad movies in that year?what were they? as i also rember some really good ones as well in 86 like Short Circuit,Flight Of The Navigator,Top Gun,Big Trouble In Little China,The Hitcher,The Fly,Aliens, i could go on

reply

I am sure you could. I couldn't tell you off hand but I do recollect my impression after going to see this movie that I even talked about that with the friend I went to the last several I had seen in a row were just abyssmal.

Here is the list of movies released in 1986

http://www.imdb.com/search/title?sort=release_date_us,asc&start=1&title_type=feature&year=1986,1986

Ther were several good films but of the total cound for the year, we just had a string of misses, ie "Crossroads" Maybe Quicksilver was a start of a bad string of misses. But looking at the list, the good ones for that year were few and far between among over 3200 releases. I do have some of the 1986 releases in my own collection, Top Gun, Ferris Bueller. Indeed there are many 'classics" but there were many more dogs.

oh yea you always get some films you think are great or average or just plain *beep* in any year :-]

I have to disagree. I'm of this era, and I never saw this movie when it came out. That said, it's hardly a masterpiece, but it is interesting as an 80s relic, and has a lot of good A-list actors in it. There's a lot of great scenery of a pre-sanitized SF, and some great bike riding, from the pre-mountain bike ten-speed era. It also throws in some ancient day trading. There's a great climax scene where the villain gets it in a way I've not seen elsewhere.

Actually, I'd say it's a pretty good movie, about a 6.5.

reply

Agreed, especially about the SF part. We were watching and asking ourselves 'Is that a hot-dog cart right outisde civic center?', because you never see that there anymore.

A 6.5 sounds about right. But man, what a cast!

Am watching it now, and wondering the exact same thing. I de factor love movies set in SF since it's my city, and keep trying to figure out exactly which spots they are filming, but it's almost as if most of the shots are set in NYC. Fascinating time capsule.

First you ask if you can be red, knowing that I'm always red.

yes this movie isn't one that will make the Library of Congress list but it does have it's moments ... although few.

This is a decent movie, not great but nowhere near bad either.

reply

Pretty dull.

I kind of like the theme song though.
