Did Julian Beck die during or after filming?
If he died during, were their drastic changes to the end? I always felt the movie ends pretty abruptly and feels kind of thrown together at the last minute.

shareYes, I think it's true that he died during filming in September. I think that I recall reading (possibly in Fangoria) that he did film another scene that was left out of the film, and that another really big elaborate scene could not be filmed because of his death...or it could have been because it would have been too expensive. From what I recall, he was to have a part in the ending, but had passed already. The few times you hear his voice and don't see him, I think beginning around the braces attack scene to the ending, they had another actor imitating his voice. I may be wrong about this, sorry, it was a long time ago. However, this is what I remember.
There is supposed to be a 131 minute version of Poltergeist II, as opposed to the 91 minute version we all know. I'm pretty sure I have seen pictures of Julian Beck as Kane, that did not look like any scenes included in the film, but it also could have just been pictures he posed for on the set for promotion.
Could be, shame we never had the opportunity to know what they had planned for the ending.
"I'm the ultimate badass, you do NOT wanna f-ck wit me!"Hudson,Aliens😬
He died after filming ended, but before the films release. He had been battling stomach cancer for about 18 months, his death was not unexpected.
FYI- Same happened with Heather, she died after filming but before they released Poltergeist 3. Her death WAS unexpected.
You're Perfect Yes It's True.... But Without Me You're Only You
No, Heather died during filming of Poltergeist III, and that's why you don't see her face in the very last scene of the movie.
I'm happiest...in the saddle.
Actually principal photography finished in June of 87. Heather died in (I think) Feb of 88. A reshoot of the ending was ordered by the studio just before Heather died, that's why they used a double and you don't see her face.
So technically we're both right!
Such a tragic end to a beautiful, talented young actress.
nope, Poltergeist 3 finished filming in mid-late 1987 before her death.
she died before the new ending was filmed.
