Kane was the one of the scariest villains in horror history

He makes Freddy Krueger look like a saint, Kane's presence in the movie when he was stalking Carol Anne in the mall was one of the scariest scenes in the movie, also the confrontation at the house!

Kane: your gonna die in there! All of you! Your gonna dieeeeeee!!!

Tell me about it. I remember watching this as a kid of maybe 5 or 6 (thanks a lot mum) and I had recurring nightmares featuring the good reverend. To this day he still creeps me out!!!

He is terrifying. I have not met many people who have seen this film that do not admit he is a frightening character. Even those that hated the film.

Julian Beck was terrific in this and his scene with Steven in the front steps of the house when Kane is trying to manipulate him and trick him into inviting him inside the house remains effective.

I always thought his Performance was unintentionally hilarious, especially the scene where he's singing and grinning like an idiot. The Giger-monster is much scarier IMO, at least in its early stage.

the scariest of all time ... as a kid, all my older cousin had to do was walk by my bedroom singing "God is in his holy temple" .. and that was it , no sleep for a week, had to leave the lights cause I was too old to sleep in my parents bed :)

Yes he is an underestimated villain in the horror pantheon. Very scary, especially the "Let me in" scene... One of the best scenes in the horror genre ever filmed.

And an accurate scene as demons possess those who allow them to enter and use tricks to enter. That scene was scary as hell. It makes me think of how we give in to the voices within that tell us to open the door to them. We must be strong!

Accurate? According to whom?

AGREE AGREE AGREE. I still have nightmares about Kane in this movie. Slowly approaching, singing the song, begging to be let in. Yikes.

I wouldn't compare him to Freddy but as a demon he is very very creepy!
