shareYeah this scene made absolutely no sense. I don't think it was necessary. If they wanted to make this scene mean anything then they should have had a Cuban soldier about to go in the shower and then Jones shoots him and rescue the chick.
shareAlthough I am a female I will say this. Females can be downright stupid during emergency situations. We have regular fire alarms on the dorms (I am the dorm mother) and thankfully they have all been false alarms. Just try to get those girls out of the shower and out of their rooms in less than 5 minutes. The security tell us to just wait till there is a real fire and watch them run when they have flames licking at their backsides. They sure ran when that 7.2 quake hit in AZ back in early April. We are in San Diego but they got the heck out of the dorms in a hurry. The swing dorm mother made them all go back outside again when they got back inside the dorm last week and do it all over again till they get it right and got out in a timely manner.Hate to say it guys but the boys can be just as stupid and stubborn. We have male dorms here also.

the students didnt know they were in any danger to begin with., they were surpised when the marines showed up.
sharethe students DID know they were in danger. they knew there was a 24 hr curfew that had been in place for a couple of days. they were told that they would be shot on sight if they were caught outside their dorms. some may have been surprised when the Rangers, (the Marines didn't free any students), showed up because they may not have gotten the word that an invasion was taking place. and by the way, i was there during the invasion.

BTW: The students I am writing about in this are between 16 and 25 so it isn't just gender that can be stupid. The students in this movie are pretty much the same age.
shareI worked with a GySgt that participated in the Grenada operation, and he said the toilets at the college were clogged from the students flushing their drugs because they thought the Marines were doing a drug raid on the island.
