Aliens - Scene 32 - Ripley - Diagetic Digital De-Aging

ALIENS: Scene 32 - On the left, Ripley, digitally de-aged to match Sigourney Weaver’s appearance in Alien, which was released 7 years before this sequel. You don’t age in cryosleep.

Photoshop/EbSynth/After Effects were used to generate this effect.

You age about 7 years for every 57 years spent in cryosleep. Didn't you watch the movie?

reply

While I'll say that de-aging Sigourney Weaver for this role to make a 7 year difference seems totally unnecessary; I do not remember anything in the film that suggests that there is some kind of ratio of 'slowed' aging when in Cryosleep. I think the assumption was you don't age.

Did I miss something in either Alien or Aliens that suggested there is like a 'you age only 1 year for every 8 years in cryosleep' dialogue? I do not remember it.

Or are you just being sarcastic?

reply

Not at all. Just using the facts as you wrote them. Ripley obviously aged, we know it was seven years for the actor, the movie states she spent 57 years in cryo.

reply

Oh, so it was an assumption based on facts outside the film? Weaver aged 7 real years while 57 years passed for Ripley so therefor 57 years of crypsleep causes 7 years of aging. I am quite certain you can't count that as an 'in universe' fact.

reply

It's how fiction is translates to "facts". Like when you estimate the size of the armored vehicle based on comparing people standing next to it, and the size of the lander based on that.
Nevermind that irl some were mere models.
Of course this is when there are no other measures given in the movie about said objects.

reply

umm; no fiction does not translate to facts. It is fantasy; the rule are whatever the in universe rules say they are. Unless we can assume it is a fact that Rachel had facial reconstructive surgery between Batman Begins and Dark Knight (or maybe the actor was just replaced?).
