Order of episodes on DVDs

Anyone else notice that on the DVDs from MPI, a number of the episodes are out of order? And quite blatantly so. Disc 5 features The Musgrave Ritual and The Man with the Twisted Lip, both of which pre-date the episodes on Discs 3 & 4. That, however, is not the only discrepancy. In detail:

Episodes in order of broadcast (excluding 2-hour features):

The Empty House
The Abbey Grange
The Musgrave Ritual
The Second Stain
The Man with the Twisted Lip
The Priory School
The Six Napoleons
The Devil's Foot
Silver Blaze
Wisteria Lodge
The Bruce-Partington Plans

Episodes in order of appearance on DVDs:

The Empty House
The Abbey Grange
The Second Stain
The Six Napoleons
The Priory School
Wisteria Lodge
The Devil's Foot
Silver Blaze
The Bruce-Partington Plans
The Musgrave Ritual
The Man with the Twisted Lip

Anyone know how this mix-up occured? In some cases, it is supremely obvious, just by watching the episodes, that they are misplaced. In the two episodes on Disc 5, for instance, Holmes's hair is slicked back, as in the earlier episodes...not cut in the style of the later "Return" episodes. And in The Musgrave Ritual, Holmes is obviously shooting cocaine...which immediately dates it prior to The Devil's Foot, when he kicks the habit. In fact, when viewed in the order that they are presented on the DVDs, it may appear to the untrained eye as if Holmes has relapsed into his cocaine usage.

One would think that they'd be able to get the order correct, no?

To make it even stranger, I've just checked my itvDVD box set and the order is different again.

The Empty House
The Priory School
The Second Stain
The Musgrave Ritual
The Abbey Grange
The Man With The Twisted Lip
The Six Napoleons
The Devil's Foot
Silver Blaze
Wisteria Lodge
The Bruce Partington Plans

I've seen at least 3 different *complete* box sets now - I wonder if any of them have the order right? Thanks to your post though I now know to leave a note inside my dvd case with the correct order! (And I'll be checking the other series as well, just to be sure.)

I think somebody's had tee many martoonies!

I've rented the DVDs from the library and they all out of order too. It's a little annoying as I'm watching most of these episodes for the first time. If I had know about the problem I would have corrected it myself.

I see what you mean about Holmes cocaine habit in the Devil's Foot and The Musgrave Ritual. You think if someone was going to put them in the wrong order you think they at least get pop those two around a little more.

Yeah, I noticed that the order was different from the broadcast order of some old TV recordings I have. Mildly disorienting, but it doesn't really impact on the continuity. Apart from starting with the 'Empty House', which the DVD does, you can watch these episodes in any order, in my opinion.

'Irregardless' is not a word

The order on BritBox (via Amazon) is out of order, too.
