Did This Show's Failure Truly Affect Lucille Ball.......

and caused a decline in her health which ultimately contributed to her death a few short years later??? I heard it upset her knowing her glory days as a successful TV star were over.

I wonder the same thing. Im trying to research it. Hard to find anything. Perhaps reading the books would shed some light on it.

I read that she never again attempted to do another series, movie, etc.

It didn't help that she basically help create a lot of the practices that are standard in television sitcoms, only to be fired after nearly 20 continuous years on TV.

Here's Lucy was basically canceled in 1974. She was at least given the dignity of ending it on her terms rather than being unceremoniously canceled. That was pretty devastating

And here, we have the crux of it. I think that could damage anyone. All it takes to kill someone slowly, is to wound their pride first. And that's exactly what this did.

But, I don't blame the show as much as I blame the network and the harsh people who criticized her so unabashedly. You know, sort of like what's happening on this board. They didn't give the show a fair shake.

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

To top it off the Los Angeles Times headlined their entertainment page "The Queen is Dead" upon cancellation of the show! What a GD kick in the gut!!!!?

Nobody is criticizing her. We're just asking questions.

There is an interview she had with Joan Rivers during the run of "Life with Lucy" where she said she cried a lot about what people where saying about it and her performance specifically. it made me feel sad for her.
