So their hair was NATURALLY that color?

I was always under the impression that the Holograms and Misfits dyed their hair to get that New Wave/Rock look...but in flashbacks of them as kids they have the exact same hair color? Did their parents dye their hair as toddlers too?

Many characters in the show have unnatural hair color including random background characters. I've seen Jem's pink hair color used on multiple background characters as well as green, blue, and orange. It's just a common cartoon/anime concept and doesn't imply that anyone dyed their hair.

Rio grew a purple 5 o'clock shadow in the episode where the Holograms and the Misfits were stranded on a dessert island together. So if it grows out of your face that way it's real.

What makes you think that they colored there hair?

Erica you seem really into Jem, there is a place where you can discuss it even further than this IMDB board. I should warn you however the population is very hardcore about the show.

Good catch.

Because it was/is common for rock stars and because Blue, Lavendar, Green & Purple hair doesn't exist. I know it was a cartoon but I figured some aspects were based in reality.

Doesn't look purple to me

I'm guessing we are to believe their hair was naturally that color since like you said the flashbacks with them as kids. Shana and Aja were orphans so they had no parents to dye their hair. The only contradiction in the whole matter is that apart from the main characters on the show, no one else had pink, red, etc, hair color including Jerrica and Kimber's mom and Piazzaz's dad.

There actually are a fair bit of other characters/background characters with different hair colors. I think in Jem world hair colors are the normal blonde, brown, red, black, gray, white plus bonuses of pink, lavender, green, blue, purple, green. I do like to think that pizzazz dyed her hair though. She's probably a natural purple ;)

Also, so weird that i know this...

I, too, realized with later viewings that their hair is suppose to be that color naturally. It's not hard to believe; it's a cartoon and it was animated by a Japanese company; their anime characters typically have unnatural hair colors.

Given that both Stormer and her brother had blue hair, I'm wondering if their parents had blue hair as well.

This show always felt anime to me due to the weird hair colors which is common in thar style of animation. Shane it rarely turns out as good as here when you dye it. The live-action film for example.

Pizzaz is shown as a child with green hair and I very much doubt her conservative parents dyed it.

Pleased to meet you. Hope you guess my name. ;)

A lot of you guys have missed the point entirely. The reason all these characters are depicted with purple, green and blue hair even as babies (e.g: Clash) and children is NOT because the Japanese animation studios were trying to infuse anime concepts into the show, but rather because it was obviously deemed best not to CONFUSE young viewers about which character they were seeing as a baby/child. There would be a break in continuity, from a young child's point of view, if they suddenly see Rio, Aja and Shana with BLACK hair when they were kids.....or if Pizzazz was depicted with BLONDE hair as a toddler, and so on. It's as SIMPLE AS THAT.

As far as Stormer and Craig having the same hair colour - as siblings, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that they were both decided to dye their hair the same colour. Heck, Stormer probably took her lead FROM her older brother, considering the sheep-like personality she had (i.e: following others, oftentimes blindly, without evaluating what she really wants for HERSELF).

it was the 80s--where people thought it was normal to wear shoulder pads with everything even t-shirts. Malls AND mall bangs were considered reasonable. So I'm sure this seemed totally normal and healthy at the time. Yes, now it really date-stamps the show as a product of it's time.

lol how many guys (even hot ones) grow a purple 5'o clock shadow?
