Sherman and Clifton's off camera relationship

This is one of very few successful sitcoms where there have never been behind the scene stories or cast interviews or informatoin about working on the set together. But I always wondered what Clifton's relationship was like working with Sherman. Being that Clifton was a pastor in real life. I wonder if Sherman expressed his own feelings about God towards Davis, or did he just keep it professional. I mean, this was a sitcom that took place at church, so it had to be discussed at some point among the cast. Sherman was a private person and a professional actor, I have a feeling that he wanted to keep his beliefs to himself I always wondered how Davis and Hemsley got along on the set. They worked together for five years. Not to mention Jester Hairston who was a legendary writer of classic gospel hymms.

Sometimes I think this show's success was lost in the sauce among the other hit shows on NBC at the time.

You bring up a great point. The one thing I do know is that Sherman Hemsley was very quiet and introverted when not in front of the cameras. So maybe he was too shy to talk about it. He was also single his whole life, never marrying.

William Frawley and Vivian Vance did not get along.
