Book never asked what happened to Rachel's husband

I thought it was weird that they never even discussed her husband. "Where's your husband?" would have been the first thing a Philadelphia police detective would have asked an Amish woman with a kid. He would know it was weird for her to be travelling without one and even when they got back to Lancaster, he never even asked about him!
