Blatant Ripoff of National Lampoon's Vacation

So obvious. The most obvious thing was how the mom from this movie looked just like Beverly D'Angelo from Vacation. I actually think the producers of this movie sat down and said, "Okay, how can we make a Vacation clone?"

reply

it had the flavor of Vacation. I can see your comparison. but i wouldn't call it a "clone". Very similar mood, style, humor, etc.

reply

Nah, don't see it. This isn't a road trip movie, it's about the actual holiday destination itself. The other main difference is that John Candy is funnier than Chase, and Summer Rental's tone/themes aren't half as vulgar or mean spirited as Vacation. This movie is way better I reckon.

Buckle up back there, we're going into... hyperactive

No, if it were more of a road trip movie I might agree.

reply

So obvious you're a moron. Nice try being smug though. I'm glad it backfired on your ridiculous ass.

reply

I think it could have been a Vacation sequel, since it follows the theme of a dad taking his family on vacation and everything going wrong, but that's where the similarities end. It's not a direct clone of any of the Vacation movies.

I have to go with the consensus:

You're an idiot.

and NOPE

"Vacation" was really a road trip movie, the actual vacation and vacation destination is shown for maybe 10-15min. The majority of the movie takes place on the way to Walley World. "Summer Rental" is not anything like Vacation because they dedicate none of the movie to them getting to their destination aside from maybe a 1 min montage, the whole movie takes place at their vacation destination with a pretty big sub plot of a boat race at that vacation, it has a different tone too. Both are great movies, Vacation was the bigger hit with several sequels but Summer Rental is not a Vacation rip off if you actually watch the movie's which are very different.

Nope. Not Obvious. Not a Blatant Ripoff. Not a Clone.
