Too neat

I have tried to like this movie, but was distracted by the tidiness. Most of the clothes looked like they just came from the dry cleaners and the people looked as if they had just stepped out of the shower. Even the buidings looked new. I like my westerns gritty, and this one didn't make the cut.

It's a feel-good western and it doesn't pretend to be a serious one in the same vein as Clint's 70s/80s post-westerns or Sam Peckinpah's gritty survivalist tales of day laborers who were also gunslingers. I can accept this premise as the story line and characters hold true to this notion. Movies like "The Quick and the Dead", on the other hand, fail at being gritty with actors who feel out of place for the premise it presents.

I read somewhere that the Kasdans were trying make a spoof/satire/homage to and of the western. Whatever, I still love the film.

You know, the old west was new when they built it.
