So how did you come across this movie? Im always curious when people watch an old movie like this for the first time how they found out about it.

reply

from the lack of good movies made in todays world - it leads me to go backwards to check if i missed anything from my childhood

i somehow missed this and valley girl - but saw everything else

Valley Girl and Secret Admirer are both pretty good for '80s teen comedies... probably both are slightly underrated. I would also include Just One of the Guys along side them as better films than usually given credit for. Kelly Preston was also good in Mischief (1985) and it's a quality film as well.

reply

I think you mean the director of 'Secret Admirer' owes a lot to John Hughes. The latter was responsible for one of the best movies of 1985 :

'The Breakfast Club' :)

With respect to 'Secret Admirer', it was nothing compared to John Hughes' classic of '85.

reply

I like this better than breakfast club. I think BC is overrated. The best thing about it is the soundtrack. Easily

reply

@Virgin_ BC is hardly overrated. If you don't appreciate it, you're either too young to grasp the characters, or you just can't appreciate how well written it is/was. MSA is a good film, but can't touch BC. Seriously.

reply

Wow you mention Secret Admirer, Valley Girl and Just One of the Guys which are all in my 80's top 10 comedies. I've loved all 3 since release and yes they all stand the test of time.

reply

Throw in Better Off Dead and you almost have my top 5. The 80's truly had some great stuff

reply

John Hughes did it BETTER; this was as appealing as it was because of the cast, not the script...

I like all these films named here: "The Breakfast Club", "Secret Admirer", "Just One of the Guys" and "Better Off Dead"; I'm glad all those films exist. Hey, and I think "Mischief" is really good too, though it's different to me since it was set in the 1950's.

reply

Why did he owe a lot to this particular movie? He already had made several of his classic films before this. This movie is okay but his scripts and storylines are much smarter. More clever, charming, and witty.
