I don't know what all the hubub is about. Since everyone else is telling, I was born in 77 and remember going to see this movie with my parents when I was a kid. I just finished watching it again, and it's still a good movie. Cheesey? Yes. Lame special effects? Yes. Good movie? YES. These things aren't mutually exclusive, and I for one was glad to see it again.

I'm Bill Pardy.

i just saw it for the first time today, im an 87' baby. and i thought it was cute, even though yes the effects were a bit blah, but hey when it first came out that stuff was tops!

I was born in 1980, and remember loving the film as a kid, dunno if I'd like it any more now, but I liked it when I saw it.....

I was born in '83 and I still love the film! The plot is alot better than the more modern films like 'the Santa Clause'! Santa Claus the Movie is a simple classic feel-good Christmassy film and anyone who says otherwise is just a baah humbug!

Oh my god how can anyone not love this film? It is pure nostalga for me. I was born in the 80s, not 70s, but I grew up watching this. LOVE it.

It's calm under the waves, In the blue of my oblivion.

was born 85, ok its not got a great plot, but hey isnt that what most christmas movies are like, its just a fun fill good christmas movie that has no deep message 'some times a cake is just a cake'- star trek
its a family christmas film at its best

I was born in 1963. I have two children ages 10 and 2. I still believe in the Spirit of Christmas. I haven't seen this movie simply because of it's plot as well as the era in which it was made. My question is how this film holds up to It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle On Thirty-fourth Street, two films that never seem to lose their luster and are truly classics.

Born in 84, loved it when I first saw it. Love it now. We had a version that my Mom taped from USA in the late 80s or early 90s complete with old commercials adn static. We finally updated to DVD. But this movie is best watched on VHS on a crappy TV.
Its so Old School and Awesome.

I am the mother of 2 kids born in 83 and 86. They loved it and watched it endlessly back then. Recently my kids were talking about this film and how much they wanted to see it again and lamenting that it wasnt out on DVD yet. The other day my son found it on DVD and we all sat down and watched it last night and it brought back wonderful memories. It was a magical film back then and still is now.

I am glad that nearly all the replies are in favour of this film but its a pity that the subject heading is titled "this movie is terrible on every level".

Its a wonderful film and i urge all parents to buy it for their kids for christmas.

My Kids, born in 78 81 and 83 loved this movie. I think part of it was they understood that the wooden toys were kind of an idea or symbol. Santa gives timeless toys..
which in our family was true... Santa gives the home made dolls and capes, Santa gives the wonderful wooden blocks and the untrendy stuff.

We are on our second batch of kids ages 6 and 3 and they love this movie too.

I, BORN IN 78, LOVED THIS MOVIE WHEN I WAS 7. Like all other things that I loved when I was 7, the only value it holds now is sentimental. No, I don't think the movie is great now, however, that does not make it a bad movie. I would much rather sit through this with my children than some of the crap they have out now.

Let's not forget how wonderful CGI (if done right) is. Movie making has come a long way since then. Anyone wishing to knock this movie must believe it to be biographical. It is a kids' movie... if you're not a kid (at Heart), then you're probably gonna hate it.

By the way, product placement was dominated by McDonald's, where else could products be placed?

I'm watching it on ITV right now...it is pretty lame and I don't like the guy playing Santa, but I still like it for nostalgia sake. Oh - and I'm a circa '73 babe!

Some posters have hit the nail on the head. This film has tremendous Sentimental value to the children of 1985.

Born in 1977, this film brings me back to a time that I really miss in life. We all age and look back to times in our childhood that stood out and made us smile. This is one of them. I can still remember my brothers and I as children really enjoying the trips to McDonalds to get our happy meals that came with a "Santa Claus" little booklet;)

It was great being a child growing up in the 1980's. I wouldn't trade it for anytime in history. I feel blessed.

It's very understandable for people to feel this movie kinda lags and just isn't very good. I can see why they would feel that way. I probably would too if it hadn't come around at a very special time in my life: childhood.

It's been a while since your OP, but I respectfully disagree. The first part, at the North Pole, is great. Taken on it's own. The second part, once he gets to NYC, is pure garbage.
