Not killing Apollo wouldn't have resulted in a boring movie. In fact, they didn't have to kill him at all, instead they could've just had Drago pummel Apollo into a coma and that would have been just fine and equally barbarous and then of course have Apollo come out of it at the end, cheesy, but better than killing Apollo. His death was one I could never stomach.

Yes. Apollo was his best friend. It's just a fight. Living is more important than "The Eye of The Tiger," or any of the other little slogans used often in this movie. Apollo would have eventually forgiven Rocky. This movie could have been an hour and thirty minute music video with the cheesiest 80's music yet.

I watched a clip for like 2 seconds last night on you tube and I remembered why I dont watch the Appollo Drago fight anymore.

That moment was hilarious. They would have disqualified a fighter immediately for doing that in the real world and ended the fight. You don't push the ref aside when he's trying to break up the fighters.

That's pro wrestling sort of stuff there. They don't let that slide in a real athletic event.
