Music by Ennio Morricone WTF!

Now I bet someone else also mentioned this but seriously WTF. A legend like Morricone scoring Red Sonja. That's probably the reason why the music was the only good aspect of this film. I mean this is like John Williams scoring Battlefield Earth or Steven Spielberg directing Saw 6.

Morricone's robust and majestic full-bore orchestral score was simply fabulous. It reminded me of the similar equally stirring and terrific score hed did for "Hundra" around the same time.

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!

Not to mention, the set design and costumes were by Danilo Donati whose best known for his work with Fellini and Pasolini.

Worse yet Clive Exton who did amazing work on Poirot and George MacDonald Fraser who did the Three and Four Musketeers adaptions wrote this trash.

Clearly they took the money and ran.

I love maestro Morricone. Love him. He's easily composed 35 film scores that are absolute masterpieces.

But he's never been exclusive to prestige unfortunately. I guarantee if you dig into the full breadth of his works, of the over 500 scores he's done, well over half are pretty much ridiculous garbage for horrendous productions of exploitation that anyone with an ounce of integrity would be ashamed to be associated with. Shows what people actually know of Ennio Morricone's career, because all throughout he's always composed for trash movies, often with equally trash scores!

I agree Red Sonja is pretty bad... but Morricone's done far worse! And it's absurd to think a major mainstream adventure film directed by one of the genre's premiere innovators should be beneath him (of course it is beneath him, but in theory it's not).

Saddest of all, Red Sonja is an above average addition in his oeuvre -- and coming on the heels of Poledouris' monumental Conan music, Morricone's is not just disappointing but one of the films greatest failings.

Morricone has a job as a composer... Actors have jobs as actors... Directors have jobs as directors... Morgan Freeman said that he has never watched any of the films he's starred in except Shawshank (once) but that was only because he had to for an event. A job is a job.

A couple years before Red Sonja, Ennio scored a film called Hundra......He then took that score and ported it to Red Sonja.......He basically ripped off himself.

Son-of-a-bitch must pay!!

reply

Did you like The Exorcist II? Because he composed the music for fhat awful film.

I am on the road less traveled...

Well... It's not like he became famous for scoring A grade hollywood movies.

The movie wasn't bad, and Morricone's a composer-for-hire with 527 credits. In addition to movies, he also scores TV movies, documentaries, and short films.

He's composed for The Humanoid, The Island (1980), Exorcist II, When Women Lost Their Tails, Hundra, Mission to Mars, Sahara (1983), and Operation Kid Brother.
