Jason ultimately had Scott to thank for how he turned out as a fighter

If you think about it, Scott is the reason Jason become such a beast of a fighter. Had Scott not joined Ian's dojo, turned Dean against Jason (Dean was super cool to him up until that point), which eventually led to the fight at the party, Jason wouldn't have launched into desparation mode and reached out to Bruce Lee the way he did after the party. Scott was ultimately a blessing in disguise (despite being a total 4-star douche).

Now that you mention it, it's like Back to the Future. Had Biff not spiked the punch bowl, George would not have got the courage to punch him.

Like NRNS, BTTF was made around the same time (late 1984 when Eric Stoltz was the star).
