Why Is This Marketed As A Van Damme Film ?

Originally borrowed this from a work friend and believed at first for van damme to be the hero due to the cover and his name in big letters on the front but was revealed to be a villain with little screen time and the main characters name is not on the dvd or on any pictures even the back is all van damme, so why ?

A very common way of cashing on on a star's early films AFTER they are famous.

Same happened with Stallone in DEATH RACE 2000 and CAPONE;

Sharon Stone in ACTION JACKSON;

Helen Hunt in TRANCERS;

Macaulay Culkin in UNCLE BUCK;

To name but a few.

Its a marketing technique. Put the most popular house hold name on the cover to make them think that persons the star of the movie to make a buck. If you buy any Jackie chan film where hes only the director or has a small part they will put his face on the cover so it will sell. Although he had success on guiding light, if you say Kurt Mckinney people would be like who?

Perhaps the most extreme case of the above is with "The Little Shop of Horrors". I saw a DVD edition of it with Jack Nicholson on the cover. Even though his performance was really entertaining it lasted only about 3.5 mins.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ . To con people into paying for it.

Even though he is not the lead I think Vanne Damme is in it enough for it to be marketed with him.

One film that did piss me off (just an impulse buy when browsing and the reason I bought it because I rate him quite high) was The Reverend which the DVD packaging marketed it as a Rutger Hauer film (as though he was the lead) but he was only in it for a couple of minutes at best! and the film was awful to imho :-(

Yeah, this movie definitely isn't even one of the worst offenders. In the case of JCVD, he's not the hero but he is one of the leads and is billed just behind McKinney in the credits. It's marginally misleading but I've definitely seen worse.

Another one cashing in on JCVD. He played a gay dancer, and was in it for all of 5 minutes.

Van Damme in this movie was still less disappointing than what he was given to do in Black Eagle.
