Why didn't Tahnee Welch have a bigger career?

No she was not a very good actress. But surely, in the '80s, they didn't care about that all that much!
She was certainly pretty enough.

She was in a few movies but not mainstream Hollywood as can be read on her IMDb profile.

It was definitely a loss though because she was a screen beauty and am sure she could have improved upon her acting.

Here's her IMDb bio:

Indeed.

Very pretty face, but a very reserved & serious manner, and a bit wooden in her performances. And had a strange, unidentifiable, quasi-Transatlantic accent.

See link below for an example of her initial 1985 U.S. media appearances to promote "Cocoon".... it's quite a bizarre interview with David Letterman which saw her less-than-enthusiatic and indeed quite unendorseful of the film (before its release/popularity!). Might explain something.

Watched it and the impression I got was that she didn't really want the hassles of major fame at the time. She kept downplaying her role in the movie. She may be one of those people who just wants to act just because she likes it rather than for fame and fortune. Could be that she avoided the talk show circuit because she's actually kind of shy as many actors are and preferred doing scripted work rather than trying to deal with unpredictable hosts in unscripted exchanges in front of an audience. It's like someone who hates doing public speaking. She's interested in doing her job, not talking about herself. Playing a role gives her a shield, especially when it's in front of a camera instead of an audience.

I had a huge crush on her after seeing Cocoon, but as others have highlighted, Tahnee just didn't seem to have the drive to want to expand her career in A-list movies. Too bad, cuz I think she could have given other more mediocre actresses a run for their money (ie - Darryl Hannah)

Maybe she looked on her mothers career and was not interested in that and maybe risk getting compared to a celebrity parent, as many kids of such a parent do.
Then her heart might also have been burning for something entirely different than acting.
Then in 2000, she perhaps decided that its now or never to pursuit that passion and quit acting.

I read her biography on the IMDB that she stopped doing interviews for the movie, Cocoon because she was tired of answering questions about her mother and I wonder if that meant that she was also tired of people telling her how much she looked like her mother.
