Why not remake this?

They remake everything else. There is remake of "Vacation" out right now. Why not remake this? This could be great with a smart update.

Why remake it when you can do a sequel? The actors are still alive and they could just add a new generation with their kids.

Seems stupid to do a remake of the film...why bother?

No remake: No Sequel !

I graduated H.S. in '84 and this movie is just too good and too classic.. Keep any and all hands off of it ! !

With the exception of Bender, I would say I'm about 25% each other character. All-in-all, the movie (yes, to me) is 89.999% on spot.

Seriously: Could even today's best/freshest director catch a decades old detail so trivial as no seat-belts being used by the parents or kids at the beginning of the movie ?

In this and other threads, people have noted not all, but some of the following concerns of a 2016 politically correct story; be careful what you wish for! :

***Please take w/ a grain of salt ☺

The kids would have to include at least a White, Black, Asian, Latin American & Middle Eastern;

The music would be from Justin Bieber;

The kids would be doing nothing but texting; but only for the first 45-60 minutes, until (whew) a storm comes through and the lightning takes down all the local cell towers causing them to resort to speaking to each other after their phone batteries all die;

One kid is handicapped;

One kid is mentally challenged;

One kid is coming out of the closet;

One girl has her baby w/ her and is debating what to do with #2, due in 7 months;

One staff member is only there because another, out on bond, requires watching according to the school board until she goes to court on Monday for sexual abuse of a minor. But which kid is it ? ? Oh no. . Another Sequel !?!;

You forgot asperger's syndrome LOL.

But no, I think a sequel could work, but it would have to focus on the adults rather than their kids.

Instead of having it be a "teen movie" it could be like a middle aged Gen Xer movie. It could be about how they feel estranged from their own kids. Much like the parents we don't see them for 90% of the film, we understand them through references. Instead of talking about their relationship with their parents, they would mention their wives, kids, and careers. Something to think about.

John Hughes had always intended to follow them every 5 or 10 years or something. It's kind of a shame it never happened.

I have to admit, you nailed this. Of course there would have to be all the races represented as well as a gay kid (not that there is anything wrong with being gay or a minority, of course).
