What did you rate ''The Black Cauldron'' (1985)?

I rated this tedious Disney animated film 6/10, which may be overgenerous; but it has its moments. All the scary stuff works really well. And though I didn't particularly care for the characters, even they managed to draw out my sympathy at odd moments.

Gurgi, the dog-like thief and coward, however, ranks among the least appealing Disney characters ever. Leave him in the cauldron!

The badly-plotted story is the worst thing. The best is Elmer Bernstein's spooky music.

What did you rate the film? What do you think of it?

8 out of 10. Very underrated Disney flick.

Nobody cares what you think.

I think I have it at a 5 or 6, I don't remember. While not Disney's worst, not even of the 80s, it's still surprisingly bland and forgettable. I know it's got kind of a cult fan base but so does every other dark fantasy film from the 80s.

10 out of 10. Terrific little film, a wonderful heroic fantasy adventure that gets everything right, the atmosphere and the lovely characters. Very different from the usual Disney, it retains all the talent but use it in a different direction. I was lucky to see it when it came out and again in theaters in 2000-something. I read the book series too, wasn't as thrilling as the films but The Black Cauldron was still the best volume.
