When McManus died?

How did the show handle it?

I've just started to get into the show and was basically just wondering how the series covered and handled his death.

Thank you.

The show basicly had Taggart die in an ambush and the episode then had Jardine & Reid track down his killer.

reply

No, that isn't correct. There was an episode that began with his funeral and we were just told that died of a heart attack.

Funny but I remember watching an episode where it mentions that Taggart was supposedly murdered and they were looking for the killer. Unfortunately I never got to see the outcome of this because the station that was showing it in my area (a PBS station) had one of it's monetary support drives and never showed the outcome.
I'm really hoping that someone can confirm this and also give me the title of that episode. I really want to see it.

It seems the last 2 years of his life were horrible.
He died in June 1994, 8 months after the death of his wife in 1993.
Also, in the last 2 years of his life, he lost his mother, brother and 2 sisters.

It's stated he drank heavily and his death was caused by his drinking - just seeing the heavy losses in his life makes me understand why.

It turns out his brother, Brian Connolly, was a very successful pop star and although they grew up together, they did not realize they were brothers until they were adults. His brother also died due to alcohol-related illness 3 years after McManus' death.

What a tragic life. Should have been an episode on Taggart - definitely has a high body count.

i think you are probably confusing taggart with his sergeant, Jardine, who WAS eventually murdered some years later. taggart died a natural, death, of heart failure. the episode in which Jardine dies is called Death Trap.

reply

Yes, Taggart dies off screen of a heart attack and they handled it that way, because he actually died suddenly of pneumonia right in the middle of filming the episode. So they had to finish it and deal with it in real life in the filming of it.

One of the saddest scenes for Jardine's death was when Jackie went to the location he was found....and had a moment when she had to see his body there and her emotions were very moving when she was with her friend.
