Anyone remember?

I seen Starman at the theater. I watched it recently and had previously seen it 2016. I remember the 1984 Foreigner song: "I want to know what love is" was heavily tied to this movie. However, a seach lists several movies the oldest is only from 1996.

Starman has an amazing soundtrack. I don’t remember that song ever being affiliated with it. Saw it many times on home video right after it came out.

Your recollection supports what I found online-no listed connection. What's interesting is just how connected the movie and song actually are. Here's the tagline:

"He has traveled from a galaxy far beyond our own. He is 100,000 years ahead of us. He has powers we cannot comprehend. And he is about to face the one force in the universe he has yet to conquer. Love."

Lyrics from the song: "I've traveled so far To change this lonely life
I wanna know what love is"

In movie the Starman asked Jenny: "Define love?"
Jenny asked Starman: "Do you have somebody?" Starman noted he did not.

The song was released November 30, 1984. Movie December 12, 1984.

Maybe it was the Mandela effect.

The timing was perfect. Songs for soundtracks are often released before their movies:
"Flashdance... What a Feeling" was released March 1983/the movie in April 15, 1983.
"Footloose" January 11, 1984/the movie in February 17, 1984.
"Power of Love" June 1985/Back to the Future in July 3 1985 etc.

The Mandela effect is where a large segment of the population remembers an event differently. That doesn't seem to be the case with this example, nor would it account why the movie and song have so many striking similarities that go beyond typical movie/soundtrack connections.
