Will Hare's acting was incredible - Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) Discussion

I saw this in the movies when I was 12 - all the *beep* about Santa Claus with an axe didn't scare me. Grandpa's scene was the only part that stayed with me after watching it - creeped me out big time.

i would give anything to have been able to watch this film in 1984 in a theatre. exactly such a powerful and impactful scene. and i love how as soon as that adult comes back to pick up Billy his grandpa goes back to being normal, lol. with everything billy goes through it makes sense he went crazy and went on a killing rampage. and that's what's so great and rare about this film is it's a slasher film that actually took the time to develop Billy's character when it comes to him going insane. it's a psychological slasher film. i've never known of a slasher film that has a long amount of time in psychological scenes other than this film.

Oh, yes. I was thinking how fun it would be to scare the heck out of little kids in the same way. It would be very amusing. But I suppose I'm just evil and demented. 

and then don't you love how later on when billy is an adult he scares that little girl who was on his lap when he was santa clause? that part was so awesome and so pleasurable. gosh the look on her face was priceless. i love how he said, "if you are naughty i will punish you severely." immediately after he said that she behaved and was quiet and was so scared.

i loved his grandpa, what a fuc#ing nut, hilarious how he acts. ok, so Billy watches his parents get killed by a psycho in a santa outfit, then he gets the scariest santa claus and Christmas speech ever made by his grandpa, then he lives with an abusive mother superior, then he puts on a santa claus outfit. it's no wonder he went crazy and went on a killing rampage.

exactly as far as stand out performances in this film his was the best. i mean so nuanced, so subtle, so brilliant. he was so scary and disturbing. even deniro couldn't have acted better if he got the part.
