Danny's character's actions make no sense

How many opportunities did Danny's character have to talk to Joan and ask for the map and go on his merry way, releasing her sister in the process?

Danny KNOWS where she is, when she arrives at the hotel, all he has to do is go to her, tell her who he is and that her sister is safe, ask for her to come with him to do the exchange or whatever. Or maybe just give the map, then call the other goon and tell him to release the sister and so on.

How about when he says 'I am stealing this stone, I am not trying to romance it from under her' or something like that? After that, he stupidly doesn't take his own car and drive away, but lets THEM take the car, and a chase ensues.

At this point, he should know exactly who has the stone, so when they bring the map, and the other goon says 'you and your sister... can go!', he should ALREADY KNOW the map is useless, and that they have the stone. Heck, he held the stone in his HAND, surely he would've been able to inform the other goon that Joan and her boyfriend have the stone.

They didn't need Zolo to inform them of this fact. Why would they still think they need the map, when Danny's character already knows the location of the stone's hiding place, plus, the fact that Joan and her boyfriend already have the stone?

NONE OF IT MAKES ANY SENSE!

I am sure others could easily find more behaviours that do not make any sense, because this character sure screws up a sure deal so many times... for reasons?
