While I will admit this franchise is a guilty pleasure....

Most of these movies are really just hideously bad. The franchise started off strong, though a bit clunky, and by entry 4, it just became one bad joke after another. The original film was a scary good time, as was part 2, though part 2 failed monumentally to stick to what we really learned about Fred Krueger. Part 3 was a decent way to continue part 1, and would have been a decent way to just end it for good. But NOOOO. Horror had to become FUN. Freddy had to become a star. He was no longer a menacing killer. He was just a wise-cracking blister in a Christmas sweater. With hip music and deaths too stupid even for dreams.

Nightmare 1 and 3 were the best. Nightmare 2 was equally good, though it doesn't really fit. Everything (in the Englund franchise) after that was garbage. At least the 2010 reboot - as bad as some think it was - TRIED to be a little more thought provoking. I liked it better than most people did.
