The music...my God the music...

Does anyone else agree that the reason this film is so good is because of the music? It's so huge and epic and I think it makes the film seem much more grandeur. Despite the fact that some of the effects and characters look admitably silly and dated, the music is still amazing and the theme is unforgettable.

Anyone else agree?

The film certainly has a few flaws. The names of some of the characters are cringeworthily and stereotypically "outer space" sounding with loads of Z's and X's in a lot of them. Some of the sets look very 'Buck Rogers' too with 1970s looking tech and some dodgy wigs and costumes.

The score is actually one of my favourite pieces of music from the 80s. Leitmotif and fanfare were particularly popular back then thanks to John Williams but even as a copy the melody in the music is just beautiful and it's so clever how Craig Safan uses it for a selection of emotional moods instead of writing separate melodies.

Really, this film has all the 80s goodies. A great concept, a cool ship, aliens, robots, space battles and even a cool car. Not to mention the three main characters of Alex, Grig and Centauri plus they even throw in a small cheesy romance too which I quite like.

Proper adventure stuff and even the title of the film is so ridiculously cool and epic sounding.

Winner all the way!
