DVD

Who owns the video rights of this underperforming gem of a film? When will it be available on DVD?

reply

That's exactly what I came on here to find out! This movie is a classic!!! I picked up a laserdisc of it and the picture quality is awful. I try to catch it whenever it comes on TV, it's really an awesome flick. I'm hoping somebody pulls their head out and gets this one out on DVD soon with the extras it deserves.

I'll be in line behind you at the store! I own the VHS but would love to see it on DVD.

reply

o man! I can't even find the VHS!! I would take it in any format I could get my hands on...advice, anyone??

reply

I have a VHS copy as well found it at a store called Casa Video in Tucson Arizona...actually they are a very good source for out of print flics and things only available on VHS. I could make you a copy...for a small fee of course. (:

I was in "Irecconcilable Differences" (Amy in the Atlanta sequence-"What carriage?") and am in touch with the Producer. I'll check out the DVD question. He may like to know there is such a demand. I know he will be happy to know so many appreciated his film.

Hello Laura, how exciting to find a comment here from someone that was involved with this film, we do hope you can get us some info as to why this film is being kept unreleased for so long. Do you know if there are any copyright issues? It would be great to get to see this film for the first time in its widescreen glory and to here Richard Clyderman's music and Frank Sinatra's song at the end in lush dolby surround sound. Maybe also gather Ryan, Shelley, Drew and Sharon for an intimate look back at a film that was a career high point for all of them and that was lost in the shuffle in the 80's but could not be more resonant and poignant in our times.

We all hope to hear from you Laura, hopefully with some great news; thanks.

It may have been a short scene, but you were so funny! Please find out what you can about the dvd. I know a lot of people would love to see this film again. Several of my USC film school professors used to use it.

reply

Yeah, Laura, I liked you too!!

reply

Hi Laura.

I liked your scene a lot and you were just right in it...

Are you as outraged and horrified as the rest of us that they threw on an old pan-scan transfer and actually made it look worse?

I don't do many DVD reviews on my website but this one is getting a total pan.

reply

Warner Brothers owns the rights to "Irreconcilable Differences" I think, but not 100% sure.

reply

Warner Bros. released the movie in theaters, but the production company, LANTANA, is who owns the rights. Vestron video released it on video in the mid 80's, and then cheap distributor Video Treasures released it in the 90's in a pathetic excuse of a transfer. If Warner Bros. owned this I am sure they would have released it by now. The Vestron library is being and has been released by both Lionsgate and MGM/UA home video. HOpefully they will release it soon.

this movie should be released on dvd. the more people that request the dvd version, the quicker it will happen. start requesting the dvd. WE WAN'T THE DVD NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

i agree. this was a terrific movie and should be re-released on dvd. drew barrymore was great in this movie. ryan oneil is a can't go wrong. lets get this movie on dvd now.

reply

I think its owned by MGM now. Orion Pictures made the movie. LANTANA is just a production company. (Think of them like Supervisor) Also keep in mind if popular songs are used in the movie! If there is there might be MUSIC CLEARANCE ISSUES. I for one can't think of a song in the movie but it still might be the reason for its absence on DVD

reply

ORION had nothing to do with this movie. Warner Brothers released it theatrically.

Great news...

Been waiting for this on DVD for a loooong time...

reply

Obviously NOT so great news. This DVD is a slap in the face to anyone who worked on, or likes the movie.

reply

Terrific...

We wait God knows how long for this to come out and they put out a crappy version?

Did they do the same thing to the other 3 movies they released the same day?

(Repossessed, Hiding out, Homer and Eddie)

reply

Don't know, best way to find out is check the reviews on the imdb or amazon pages for the other movies. meanwhile i will not trust lionsgate again.

reply

Well, what a disgrace this DVD is; what an insult to DVD customers and the makers behind this classic. Lionsgate really showed their true cheap, ignorant colors by doing this to this film.

From the reviews of the DVD on Amazon and elsewhere it's a subpar VHS rip.
